💡Feature Idea: more selection options - be able to exclude elements from 'select all'
What I want to be able to do:
I want to be able to have more selection options. For example: select everything BUT post its. Or select ONLY images.
Problem I am trying to solve:
Right now, I want to lock everything for participants, so they can't accidentally move anything. However, I have to deselect every single post it because they need to stay unlocked, so people can use them.
Why this helps everyone (or many people):Â
It would make it a lot easier to be able to quickly select only the things that you need to lock, so you don't have to select manually

Hm, great question. Idea for a workaround: CTRL + A to select all and then press CTRL and unselect everything that you don't want to select by left-clicking on them one-by-one. Does that solve (parts of) your requests?

Hi Manuel, thanks for your suggestion! I'm aware of that solution, however, we use very big murals with many post it notes, so it takes really long to unselect. Also: if you accidentally click on the canvas itself, you have to start all over and select and unselect everything again

Maybe there are other ways like using selection "marquees" to select and unselect stickies (= press and hold SHIFT + left-click mouse + move the mouse + additional press and hold CTRL key for selecting locked objects, too).
And I often use a two-step process: 1. Lock everything and 2. then select bunch of objects with that marquee to quickly unlock lots of objects at once again.
I use that marquee drawing a lot to quickly select whole arrays of objects on the mural. Maybe that's helpful for you, too?

Thank you! That always helps me a bit, however: often stickies are placed on other objects, for example tables or other figures. In that case it's not really useful, as you carefully have to select some elements you want to lock, while other elements (stickies) need to stay unlocked and these are all placed on top of each other. So that's why I thought it could be useful to have an option where you can quickly check some boxes of elements you don't want to select or do want to select :)

Great!
Ok, something like "select only sticky notes"? Maybe the search can help you there: You can select objects by type, author and / or search term and then they are highlighted and you can then easily use all of the existing selection options to quickly select the wanted from the search results. Everything that does not match your search cannot be selected then... Worth a try, isn't it? ;-)

Yes I think we have found our solution! Thank you very much, unexpectedly this seems to work for now :-)

Another one that might be helpful (if I didn't always forget about it): When you've selected objects of different types, there is a filter in the toolbar to choose the object type that you would like to select. Is just helpful if you want to select just one type (e.g. the stickies):

This is great, thank you very much, another really helpful option in making selecting a much quicker process 😊
