Wonderful Wednesday - Put the Feelings in your Retrospectives

Retrospectives. A time to reflect, and share your feelings (gasp!) about how a project, event, plan went. And while a description of how you felt about a project is great, you know what they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words".
So how can you easily get tens of thousands of words on your mural? Make them use images!
Now I know what you are thinking, "I always ask for visuals, but everyone defaults to sticky notes".....well I am here to tell you, create a custom toolbar to enforce only images for a period of time, and then, if you are so inclined, you can allow text as a follow up to explain those images.
I don't always make people use images in retrospectives, but when I do, I use the custom toolbar.
Check out this video for how I accomplish this!
Special shoutout to this "I Like, I Wish, I Wonder Retrospective: 5 Senses Edition Template" for a fresh new way to look at your reflection.
How do YOU get people to contribute content to your murals, outside of the typical (and lovely) sticky note?

@Gino THIS!!!
One of my favorite WW's ever, and it literally came at the perfect time. I am planning a session where each participant will have a space to express their ideas on what new thing could be done and this is a perfect way to get some visuals in before they all dive for the notes.
The Show & Tell template was an ideal format, with other text and a painting with a sunrise as the background to symbolize the idea of a fresh start.
This is such a clever way to ensure visuals in the foreground too, and so easy, yet I never would have thought of it without you. DANKE!!!

I am so happy you think this! It is so easy to think that with MURAL, we are already being visual by putting text to sticky notes to collaborate, but taking it up a notch with true visual can really flip the conversation..
I would love to hear how your session goes!

Will do @Gino . In the meantime, https://app.mural.co/template/8f734375-b56d-4900-97be-08e2328ec6f0/4367560d-8df2-4951-b737-314abcb4f8af is another template I just created that I've decided to include in all my groups from now on, instead of just having questions and suggestions put into a Teams chat, never to be found again. 🏸
It combines ideas from your WW on Fun and Different Ways to Organize Your Mural with "Blobs, Splotches and Splats" but with, for once, a positive twist on our present situation: it is easy to forget that beneficial bacteria make life on Earth possible for all of us, and that the reproducing ability of microorganisms is something to celebrate too. This template encourages participants to do the same with good ideas.
True Confession: I also just like looking at it from a sheerly aesthetic perspective.
When each group opens it the first time, I will definitely use your suggestion above to coax out some visual input first by just allowing the icons, images and draw functions the first minute or two.
This is also a way to introduce the concept of affinity clusters, by asking participants to look for or create additional areas to group questions and comments according to ilk as the sessions progress, either async or during a get-together. Then each new meeting will be started by addressing anything put there since the last time we spoke.
Thank you so much for all the inspiration you are providing - I really do look forward to WW every week. Your creativity is very appreciated and being put to good use!

I LOVE this template, I might have to update my video to be "Blobs, Splotches, and Bacteria!"
Really am glad you find value in the WW videos, I just like thinking through different ways to use MURAL, and these videos make me think outside the box.
