💡 Feature Idea: Improve the drawing feature
Hello,Â
I love mural however, I'm a little stuck on the drawing part. Indeed, if I need to design elements, I have to go to another app (or use miro).Â
Is there any plan to upgrade your drawing part? It could be really nice to add :Â
- Filling a drawn shapeÂ
- magic pen - strokes are refined and avoid shaking your drawingÂ
Regards,

Hi Jeremy! Thanks for your feedback. We are currently working on improving the drawing experience. I can definitely add you to our beta testers list once it's ready

@nadiar Please add me to your list of volunteers as well - @JeremyJodeau spoke my mind, as you can see from the vote. This would be a major enhancement, especially for those of us that are NOT gifted in the artistic department but have ideas that could really profit from the kind of features that it looks like are already available to those who can access the Smartink functions.

I would like to be able to have more drawing features when drawing on stickies. Currently it's just one pen in one color as far as I understand it. It would be great to be able to use all of the drawing tools there are (and the ones proposed in this thread) to be used on stickies, too. :-)
EDIT: It would also be great to be able to resize stickies with drawings on them

It would be great to see a redesign of the drawing features as a whole. Been in a training about visualization and I wished there where auto-recognition for basic shapes when drawing with the mouse.
And more options (various pen stroke sizes, different styles of pens/tools, maybe a more artistic brush for making decorations, ...) for the drawing tools in general.
But there's always something to wish for and I understand that Mural is not a "paint" oder "Pixelmator" or other specialized drawing software.

I join the proposal. I absolutely agree with the need to improve drawing tools.
I find that the cross-platform open source OpenBoard application (http://openboard.org) has one of the best drawing tools (with pen pressure recognition) that I have found on whiteboards. Also the eraser works very well, erasing only the part it touches and not the whole line as in Mural.
I think that being free sotfware, it can inspire them to improve the drawing experience in Mural.
Another feature I miss is being able to draw closed shapes freehand and fill them with color, either by filling them with the "paint can", or with autofill when closing the shape or with the top menu, like geometric shapes.
As an illustrator it is something I use daily for visual thinking.

Wouldn't it be cool to have some "not 100% precise" brushes so that lines would look more "artistic" and "a little bit random" instead of 100% perfect?
Thinking about brush styles like in Affinity Designer for example. Ok, this might be a little bit oversized for MURAL, but a little touch of this for a more "decorative" and "playful" style to design things in a mural than a very clean and structured "business" look ;-)
Screenshots from Affinity Designer just to visualize what I think of.

Another surprising upshot of the pandemic:
Almost every student in my classes at university, as well as in my children's classes in the 6th and 11th grades, use https://www.goodnotes.com/, something most of their parents (like yours truly) were only too happy to purchase in a desperate effort to help their floundering fledglings get through the online slog of early 2020.
This remarkable app has effectively raised note-taking on tablets to an art form and made notebook and pencil obsolete faster than you could say "What happened to all the school supplies?". My point: it has created a new digital baseline for this generation. This point of reference is really worth keeping in mind.
If there were a way to combine the collaboration power of Mural with the artistic options of goodnotes and/or those options above, on tablets AND laptops, etc., that would be just about The Perfect Thing for just about every class segment...at least until the next disruptive force gives us all whiplash again.

Hi everyone! I wanted to give you a quick update. We recently released some improvements on the performance of drawing. You should see strokes working smoother than before. We also enhanced the smoothing algorithm so now it's easier to draw straight lines and curves. We still have long way to go but we'll get there! Thank you so much for your feedback!
