💡Feature Idea: Export straight to PC

When you export from Mural (PDF etc), it would be so much easier if it just downloads straight to my computer rather than having to wait for it (or not receive it) via email

@lorna182 I was totally frustrated with this too, because although the email comes quickly after clicking on Export, I was just seeing the pink Mural block letters moving when I clicked on the link and thought I should wait and that it wasn't coming through...until I realized it was already downloaded, and that I should just click on the download arrow in the top right corner of the screen to retrieve it instead of just staring at those hypnotically shifting letters until the cows come home!

Now that I understand how it works, I see that both the pdf and png versions sent are so much better quality than the quick copies I was making with the Snipping Tool that I will def. use Export in the future. It would be great if Mural images went straight to download at Export instead of going through email though, to make it even faster. I am preparing the Mother of All Murals for my classes, with small images of each one they co-created so they can see their whole semester's work at a glance.

Being able to use the Export function to get a sharp image, together with the Link function so they can jump straight to any given one, will be golden.

@lorna182 Yes! Being able to skip the email step and have it go straight into the computer would speed up the process a lot.

Incidentally, I thought the email link was not working for me because although I always receive it right away, when I click the link, Mural letters come up, and I thought they were a sign that the computer was working to pull up the image. I finally realized that the image was ALREADY automatically downloaded into my computer upon clicking that link, and that I just had to retrieve it. Now that I am just going straight to the Download link arrow at the top right of my screen where the image patiently awaits once clicking the emailed link, rather than staring at the hypnotically shifting letters until the cows come home, accessing the .pdf's and .png's is going well!

Use: For my "clients," the students, they get the Mother of All Murals at the beginning and end of the semester, with all the ones for the class, first the blank templates to let them know what they will co-create, and then at the end another with images of all they did, along with the related slides in PPT so they can see the whole course at a glance in a BEFORE and AFTER way.

It is possible to copy a slide from PPT and post it as an image that can be enlarged with clarity and sharpness when clicked in the mural by simply copying it directly from PPT to Mural. It would be the ultimate time saver if we could do this as quickly and directly with Mural images too. A .png straight into the computer would be one step slower, but still a bit quicker than via email. I am averaging about 30 murals per "Mother Board" per course, so the time it takes to go back and forth adds up and any copy-related time saver would be appreciated.

The point is, having that outline Mural where all the ones they will work on/have worked on is great to provide a bird's eye view of proceedings. Having a quick way to get sharp images in there, plus the wonderful Link function so students can go to any mural by simply double-clicking, is the perfect combination for providing both a quick overview and depth.

Yes, would save lots of mails in my inbox :-)

It could also be cool to extend this idea to a feature to allow "visitors" and "guests" to take a "snapshot" as an image from the board and download it. Would that be helpful to some of you, too?

  • I registered just to add this same item, so hopefully it gets some traction. I'm fine with waiting on the server to process the image because I know that takes time, but just prompt me in the UI once it finishes or start the download automatically. If I close the page, then you can email me a link.

Definitely would save time as we use this a lot for documentation of results.
