Issue: Connectors reset when moving boxes

Hi,

I'm often frustrated when working with connectors (elbow connectors normally) as after carefully putting them in place they seem to reset the shape when I move a box around. This causes me to have to edit the same connectors multiple times and it's very very frustrating. I attach a gif that illustrates it.

In case you need a business case for why this is important to fix, I posted here some thoughts on the matter.

Thank you!

Hi @ignasi ! Thanks for sharing this with us.

I'm afraid I couldn't reproduce it though, I've tried creating the same flow as you have on your GIF and moving the shapes around but the elbow connectors don't get reset for me. Would you be able to DM me a visitor link to your mural so I can try a test it out? It does seem buggy but I'm not sure if it's platform-wide or maybe specific to your mural or workspace.

    Thanks in advance!

    Seb

@ignasi @Seb_from_MURAL Hello! Just wanted to say that I have problems with connectors too - I spent almost an hour on exactly this issue last night. If I move anything around them they do something else. Locking immediately helps, but that is not always possible if you are in a hurry or still needing to be able to move things around because you are mid-design. It would definitely be worth it to have a close look at what makes the connectors seem to have a life of their own sometimes.

Hi @Christina, thanks for pitching in !

If what your experiencing looks exactly like what @ignasi experienced it must be a bug, definitely. I couldn't reproduce it though so if you'd like to also DM me a visitor link to your mural so I can test it out, I'd appreciate it :)

  • I just started working with Mural and I'm attempting to build a process flow map. I'm trying to add multiple connections to a single connection on the left and multiple connections on the right. When I try to add the second connection, I place the left connector, then when I drag the right connector, the left connector drops to the bottom of the form. If I try to drag it back the entire line wraps in a big loop to the left.

This is very frustrating. I'm surprised to see this issue was reported over a year ago and it's still an issue.

Thank you, @blopez! Always a huge help. 🙌

  • Same problem here - Sometimes they stick, mostly they don't, and mostly they redraw badly, ie over another note/sticking to the original connection point vs moving points (eg from top to side) and intelligently drawing around the other note

@rossjackson and @blopez Hello again, it's April 2023 and I just had the same problem crop up again - exactly as the gif at the top of this thread shows. The connectors take on a life of their own doing things that mess up the chart every time I make a change somewhere else. I just tried to send an invitation into the room here but got a message that says the site does not allow posting of the URL. Pls. let me know how to send the sample mural to anyone who wishes to have a look at it. It seems to be connected to making the shapes longer. Thanks!

  • @blopez, I am having this same issue with lines as of June 2023. I am connecting boxes in an area, I get them all set up, then when I move the area, it rearranges all of the lines. Here is a sample of what my area looks like after I have moved it on the Mural board.

  • I experience the same quite often. Up to disconnecting (e.g. when you re-align the shapes). This is one of the most frustrating issues of Mural. I fear it would need a change in the core functionality of the app. Connectors feel like an rushed add-on to a sticky-notes tool. Mural is not a (flow-)diagramming tool by DNA. Would love to get this fixed, though!
