π‘ Feature Idea: Unlock all within one area

what you want to be able to do in MURAL?
I would like to unlock all elements of an area in a similar way as the "unlock all" feature but without changing the "lock" status of everything outside the current area.
problem you are trying to solve?
I often reuse Murals or parts of them. Very often I have to rearrange some content or put different text on pretty many stickys in the area I want to reuse. As I cannot "catch" locked Items with the mouse but have to unlock them one by one it is not really fun to do that.
why this helps everyone
It would save many users lots of time for the preparation of their murals.

@Thomas_Jorre, thank you for posting this and for using the template! Can't wait to see what other people think!

I understand that wish. It's not perfect, but maybe the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + leftclick + Drag helps you? This would draw a selection around all of the objects and also include locked objects for selection. Then you could unlock the selected objects all at once. It's not that quick as "unlock area" at once, but I use this way a lot to change, copy or mmodify a mural. Does this help you?

Thanks @manuel this is a great workaround! I didn't know it! This helps of course!

Yeahhh :-)

To not have a clear and simple way to select locked objects is a BIG miss on the part of MURAL. Glad to at least have this workaround.

What makes it not simple enough for you or how would you like it to work, @PaulEisen?

Left-click (mouse button 1) to directly select an object, or click and drag to select multiple objects. The same actions as apply to the selection of unlocked objects. A locked and selected object would not respond to any object-manipulation actions. So if a selection of objects includes both locked and unlocked objects, most actions would be ignored by the locked objects (other than, e.g., the "Unlock" or "Lock" functions).

Ok, I understand your point. How would you recognize that some objects are locked in the selection and some are not?
Today I can see the little lock symbols when I try to select something that is locked and then I directly switch to right-click "unlock", but you would like to skip those steps to make the process faster, right?
May I ask you to elaborate on why SHIFT+CTRL+left-click does not work for you? (it works for locked and unlocked objects).

SHIFT+CTRL+left-click+drag works fine indeed. But for most users in our company it is a big surprise that such a combination of keys and mouse actions is even possible. There are two existing option to unlock in the Mural context menu: unlock and unlock all.
When locking I can choose between the option Any member can unlock and Only Facilitators can unlock.
I would whish to have two options when choosing unlock all => Unlock everything in the entire Mural and Unlock everything in the current area.
This clear description would also prevent users from accidentally unlocking the entire Mural just because they think unlock all means everything that is selected or in the current area.

Absolutely an "Unlock in the current area" would be very helpful. I have the experience that "Unlock all" often is used by people unintentionally and leads to lots of unlocked objects and therefore sometimes to chaos and confusion. Therefore I would like to be able to deactivate "Unlock all" in a mural for participants. "Unlock Area" would be helpful for me and participants, I suppose.

+1 to "unlock in the current area" but why not just "unlock this element" vs "unlock all" -?
I'm not able to make the Shift-CTRL-Leftclick-Drag thing work... I have a 2013 MacBook Pro -- when I Shift-CTRL and either center click (there is no "left") or secondary click (usually this is "right-click") I get an Apple menu and not anything out of MURAL.
I'm primarily a Miro user, and we are able to selectively unlock there no problem. It's a real issue, especially if you need to real-time unlock in the middle of a worksession with 20 people using the board, and everything unlocks...sad to say it has happened to me at least once, and it's frankly embarrassing since it seems like a user error (but isn't!)
Please please fix this, @MURAL!

@NSPDX "unlock this element" is already available. But if you have like 30 elements in one area to unlock You do not want to unlock them one by one. Therefore the desire for "unlock in the current area". The dangers of "unlock all" have been described by @manuel perfectly. I absolutely second that! Unlocking all "by accident" is happening quite often.

@Thomas_Jorre maybe there's a permissions thing I need to work out then, because the only option I have currently in the right-click menu is "unlock all"...
Troubleshooting this with my team, but if you have a quick answer I'd appreciate it!

Actually I did not really get the question for which you seek an answer by me... Sorry. Can you clarify what you expect or need from me? @NSPDX
