πŸ’‘ Feature idea: Add nodes to connections

Hello everyone, have a nice new week :-)

1. What you want to be able to do in MURAL

I would like to be able to freely add additional nodes to a connector. This way I could turn a straight connection into a curve. Yes, there is a curved connection, but it's just a bezier with three (?) nodes, right?! How about being able to add more nodes to be able to modify the curve even better?

2. The problem you are trying to solve

When using connections in Customer / User Journey Maps to map user's emotions e.g. With the described feature I would be able to create a simple graph with more customizable curved connections.

3. Why this helps everyone (or many people)

Using connections for "graphing" and "diagrams" would enable new use cases :-) Maybe there is a better solution to get what I would like to reach, but this is my idea currenntly ;-)

  • I create results chains and theory of change diagrams. Sometimes I need to be able to create an S-curve in connectors in the diagram. To do so, I would need to be able to add more nodes to the connector. Mural does not support this feature, but Miro does. So if I need this feature I have to use Miro instead of Mural. Mural Team, please develop a feature to add creation of additional nodes.

  • FYI, I developed a very cumbersome work-around by using 2 connectors and carefully manipulating them so one curves one way and the second curves the other way and then joining them. But there doesn't seem to be a "magnetic" connection node between two connectors the way there is between connectors and shapes. So I have to group them to keep them together and then ungroup if I need to change the curve. A feature to allow creation of additional nodes in connectors would be a much better solution.

Thanks @lwilliams! That way you would just use one curve instead of puzzling several ones together, right?

  • Yes, that would be the best solution--just being able to add nodes would solve the problem.

In the image below, I created the S-curve in Mural using 2 single curves, which I carefully aligned and then grouped. But every time I need to move or adjust the line, I have to ungroup it, move/adjust each piece separately, and then re-group the pieces. Too cumbersome and time-consuming when the simple solution is to allow creation of additional nodes. Mural Team, please add this feature!

  • I very much agree with lwilliams, after using Miro's whiteboard, it is very difficult for me to go to Mural now because I have become so use to the flexibility of the arrows and better functioning of them with that Miro. I like everything else about Mural, but the arrows are way better in Miro...and connector nodes etc. as commented b lwilliams above. This would be a great addition to Mural, this slight difference would make a big deal!
