Wonderful Wednesdays - Your Facilitation Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Boy, what a weird title eh? Sometimes you want to get fancy with your sandwich choice, maybe a french dip, maybe Italian, who knows? What you DO know is that a solid PB&J is always there for you.
That is how I feel about some core features of MURAL that can be used in tandem to promote true collaboration within your teams.
- Start with Private Mode - Eliminates group think, and provides a safe space to add ideas
- Set the Timer - Psychologically tells people "the next 4 minutes are for me to silently add my thoughts, no talking"
- Play some music - Your choice! I have found that light instrumentals help to limit the conversation while participants are meant to be adding to your mural
- Popcorn clustering - once the timer ends and you end Private Mode, choose someone to share first. They pick a sticky note and explain it, if others have a similar sticky, they move it close to the presenter's sticky. Keeping everyone engaged is key, and this allows collaborators to stay involved, even if they are not sharing, and this alleviates any concern of you as a facilitator needing to cluster FOR everyone, and misinterpreting a sticky note you didn't write.
Of course, there are other ways to run your sessions and ensure participants are collaborating effectively, but this is something I fall back on time, and time again!

@Christina once you try it out, you can't go back. It really helps to lessen the load on the facilitator as well, so you can truly listen to the feedback.
